Executives Flock Asia Pacific Conference to Address Japan Crisis and Business Continuity Issues

SINGAPORE, 4 April 2011 -- Asia Pacific's leading business continuity event, the World Continuity Congress (WCC) 2011 recently had a swollen 250-over delegates from around region to discuss on issues concerning business continuity and disaster recovery, while  the massive earthquake, tsunami and nuclear meltdown in Japan last month is still affecting not only the Japanese, but also business operations worldwide.

Profession building ... recent series of events such as the civil unrests in Egypt and Libya, the earthquake in Christchurch, New Zealand and the devastating Japan crisis continue to reinforce the need for this profession to upgrade and expand its expertise to manage and support continuity of bussinesses at times of disasters.  
Announcing the winners ... The Resilience Awards 2011, recognition for business continuity management  excellence was held for its first time at the World Continuity Congress 2011.

The crisis that became a worldwide concern inevitably became a major agenda of WCC conference as a special panel of discussion cum dialogue was set up to address the matter. According to its organizer, Dr Goh Moh Heng, President of BCM Institute, the Institute has already been swarmed with overwhelming requests from members of business communities, non-profit organizations and government agencies even prior to the event. Dr Goh added that because of that and also other factors, the delegates comprising of senior executives and managers in the field of risks, operations, logistics, supply chain, administration, IT, IS, Business Continuity Management and Disaster Recovery offices became evident that crisis management and business continuity has shifted towards a higher agenda across various industries.


Besides talks on the Japan Crisis, delegates had the opportunity participate in multiple dialogue sessions with speakers specializing in the areas of business continuity management, crisis management, disaster recovery, pandemic management  of various industries from countries like Hong Kong, Indonesia,  Kuwait., Germany, Pakistan, Singapore, Thailand and United Kingdom. Closer to home, some of the topics include speakers sharing their organization's account of floods and typhoons in Phillipines, civil unrest in Thailand, Mount Merapi volcano eruption in Indonesia, terrorist attacks in Pakistan and exceptionally, the September 11 incident in the United States a decade ago.

The WCC held in Marina Bay Sands Expo and Convention centre, apart from the confenrence feature the Resilience Awards 2011 in recognition of organizations' excellence in Business Continuity Management, an exhibitor showcase of solution providers for business continuity and disaster recovery and also a series of masterclasses  for professional certification courses in Business Continuity, Disaster Recovery and Crisis Management by BCM Institute.
