World Continuity Congress Malaysia 2010: Post Event 22 July 2010

Countdown To 10th WCC - Being Prepared is Not an Option

Leading Government Agency MDeC Leads The Way By Supporting BCM 200 & BCM 300.

Kuala Lumpur 22 July 2010 – The sounding of a gong by Yang Berhormat Tuan Haji Fadillah bin Haji Yusof, Deputy Minister for the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation to officially open the 10th World Continuity Congress (WCC) conference, was a first for the BCM Institute team. This WCC event also won media headlines and the support of key government agencies with initiatives promoting BCM growth.

The event that captured the headlines of national news agency Bernama as well as The Star also caught the interest of the leading standards trade publication, Management Systems Asia.  The WCC event also won the praise of MDeC - the agency responsible for overseeing MSC Malaysia implementation, to ensure that MSC Malaysia achieves its objectives and working with companies to set up their operations here. Decision makers at MDec have decided to offer a 50% reimbursement for BCM200 and BCM300 and 75% off the certification fee, limited to 20 pax per class.

Riding again on the reputation of being the Asia Pacific region’s most sought-after BC-DR training provider, the masterclass that followed the WCC, namely the BCM-5000 (Advanced level Business Continuity Management) attracted participants from renowned organisations in the Region and the Middle East, such as Mobily from the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia; Bank of Cambodia and Sarawak Shell Berhad.  Mr Nop Phirun, IT Officer for Bank of Cambodia added, “The course really has opened my world to BCM. It’s really exciting to hear all the different experiences shared by the different instructors as we go through the 7 body of knowledge”. Closer to home, Ms Farah Nurha Elias, BCM Controller for Malaysia Airlines shared that the 4-day BCM course has helped tremendously in her understanding of the entire BCM methodology. The participants and instructors from various backgrounds also supplied various real-life examples of best practices.

BCM Institute and WCC Events will be hosting a series of Meet-the-Expert seminars as well as World Continuity Congress in 2010. For more information on upcoming events, click here.

The First Public Private Partnership - Tell-tale Signs of BC-DR Maturity Here

PR20100625B

Calls for more public private collaborations in managing crisis and disasters.

[Singapore 13 July  2010] The recent Meet-the-Experts seminar co-organised by BCM Institute and the Singapore Business Federation was held on 25 June 2010 at the Holiday Inn Atrium and attracted over 160  attendees from the public sector such as the Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF), Ministry of Home Affairs and the National Environment Agency.

Members of the media especially welcomed Colonel Anwar Abdullah, Director of Operations of SCDF's interest in working with the community and commercial sectors to manage crisis situations. Colonel Anwar was quoted by Today newspaper that “The majority of businesses ... are always bedevilled by the ‘it won’t happen to me’ mentality,” he said. “But from the SCDF perspective, these plans are important ... Just having plans is not enough; what is more important is to engage and partner the various stakeholders so that we can execute our plan more effectively”.

BCM President Dr Goh Moh Heng was also interviewed by SAFRA radio to provide his observations on the recent spate of flash floods that hit the tourist belt of Orchard Road last month and measures that businesses could have taken to mitigate the damages.
