The recovery strategies for any organization are closely linked to the business continuity (BC) and disaster recovery (DR) processes. There is a need to understand the BC and DR planning process and how an organization can optimize the deployment of both alternative processing capabilities with technology. In this forum, the speakers will share the identification and finalization of the recovery strategies options from the business impact analysis follow by an effective cost benefit analysis. This is followed by what the government is doing to aid companies – an opportunity to seek out funding for the implementation of business continuity and disaster recovery plan from the National BCM Programme.

Mr Yong Foo Onn, Director, UBS will discuss the how organisations can derive their recovery strategies from their business impact analysis exercise. This business continuity process can assist in the effective selection and cost-optimisation on the implementation of the recovery strategies options.


paul_kangroTopic 2: Disaster Recovery and Platform Management

Mr Paul Kangro, Applied Technology Strategist, Novell Asia Pacific, will share the alternative disaster recovery strategies and how they can be optimised to your organisation requirement. One of which is the virtualized disaster recovery technology that speeds recovery time while minimizing costs and delays associated with space and hardware.


roland_teoTopic 3: Funding from National BCM Programme

Mr Roland Teo, Deputy Director, Capacity Building Division, Singapore Business Federation (SBF) will provide an overview of the National BCM Programme: its incentives, grant and the application/submission process.

Dr Goh Moh Heng, President, BCM Institute will be the moderator for the seminar. He will summarise the speakers of the seminar and chair the questions and answers session.

Expert Speaker:

Mr Yong Foo Onn, Director, Business Continuity Management, oversees the management and implementation of BCM for the Asia Pacific Wealth Management of UBS. With more than 15 years of BCM and DR experience, Foo Onn had held both internal and external BCM and DR positions with organisations throughout Asia.

Mr. Paul Kangro, Applied Technology Strategist, Novell Asia Pacific, responsible for providing technical leadership with regard to Novell’s products and solutions to the Asia Pacific market-place by working closely with product development so as to ensure market needs are meet. Paul provides direction to major companies on strategic choices of data centre technology, including consolidation, disaster recovery and orchestration.

Mr Roland Teo is the Deputy Director of the Capacity Building Division in the Singapore Business Federation (SBF). His responsibilities include overseeing the National Business Continuity Programme and the Financial Facilitator Programme at EBIS to help Singapore companies to be ready in terms of business continuity and to facilitate funding. In the past 18 years, Roland has been involved in credit and risk management for the financial and corporate sector.

Dr Goh Moh Heng is the President of BCM Institute. His primary areas of expertise include Business Continuity Management, Disaster Recovery Planning (DRP) and Crisis Management. Over the last twenty years, Dr Goh has helped many organizations, particularly those operating in the Asia Pacific and Middle-East Region.
