Meet-The-Expert Singapore, BCM Seminar Overview

The recent speech at the National Security at the National Security Seminar by Professor S Jayakumar, Deputy Prime Minister and Coordinating Minister highlighted that Singapore should “enhance our corporate resilience through adopting the processes of Business Continuity Management or BCM in short.” This message applies to both the public and private sectors.

This seminar aims to provide BCM practitioners from government and other public sector organisations directly serving the community with insights into the ways they can meet the expectations placed upon them to deliver effective business continuity programmes. In relation to business continuity management, the public sector organizations will have to ensure resiliency within their respective agencies and also be able to respond to an emergency and promoting BCM awareness throughout the community.

Topic 1: Business Continuity Management in the Public Sector: A Case Study
By Dr Peck Thian Guan, Director, Office of Safety, Health & Environment, National University of Singapore

Dr Peck will be sharing the implementation of both Emergency Planning (EP) and Business Continuity Management (BCM) within a public sector organization, the National University of Singapore (NUS).

Topic 2: Business Continuity Planning: Where does it resides within the Public Sector?
By Dr Goh Moh Heng, President, BCM Institute

The regular discussion between public and public sectors seemed to revolve aorund the context of emergency planning and business continuity planning. Dr Goh will be provide some international views to this issue with inputs and alignment to the many public sector participants who had attended the institute’s courses. He will also share on a typical BCM implementation process that a typical public sector body should adopt.

Dr Goh Moh Heng is the president of BCM Institute. He is armed with his primary areas of expertise, which include Business Continuity Management, Disaster Recovery Planning (DRP), contingency planning and Crisis Management, Moh Heng has helped many organizations, particularly those operating in the Asia Pacific and Middle-East Region.

Dr. Peck Thian Guan is the director for the Office of Safety, Health and Environment at the National University of Singapore. He has the overall responsibility for occupational health, safety and emergency management in the university. As the Crisis and Emergency Director, he established the Crisis and Emergency Management Framework for NUS.
