As an increasingly secular and self-obsessed society our approach to risk has shifted dramatically from robust practicality to meandering frivolities. The obsession with ‘zero risk’ and the conflation of probability and possibility renders many risk assessments meaningless. Increasing regulation of dubious efficacy increases workloads and distracts us from resilience’s essential nature and purpose.
In the presentation, Chris will consider the works of Rosling, Furedi, Linkov, Pescarolli and Lindblom to consider how the imbalance can be redressed.
