Small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) are vulnerable to various types and forms of threats, dangers or crisis. Business Continuity Management (BCM) is essential and very important to SMEs. It empowers your business to continue critical operations and services during major incidents and disasters.
In an Asia Pacific Economic Community survey, 50% of the SMEs do not have any plan in-place while 30% are in the process of developing their business continuity plans. Two main reasons sighted were “Lack of knowledge and expertise  to develop their BC plan” and “Do not have access to readily available information to help in the business continuity implementation specifically for SMEs.”

As SMEs continues to form the 70% to 90% of the economies in Asia, their customers will continue to expect the continuity of their support, supplies and services. Thus, in order for SMEs to avoid service and delivery failures, penalties and fines, it is important for them to have a BC plan. As an example, the recent flood emergency in Jakarta in early 2013 and Thailand in 2012, the disasters had severely hurt businesses, particularly the SMEs. Floods, fires and power outages had disrupted and even destroyed SMEs’ business assets, which in turn would put these SMEs at risk of losing their businesses and falling into poverty.

This session will guide SMEs to identify the information needed to implement their BC plan.  The speaker will be joined by a senior executive from a SME who would share her story on how she had successfully implement a BC plan for her organisation.

6 lucky SMEs are also able to receive complimentary access to BCM consultants who would be able to give insights on how best to move forward.

“Too many CEO’s play ostrich about the possibility of a recall,” said Jonathan Bernstein, president of national consultancy Bernstein Crisis Management and editor of “Crisis Manager,” an international email newsletter. “They wait until the recall is required and then try to figure out what to do, resulting in additional risk for consumers and the company’s reputation.”
